Destination guide - Twin Falls
Twin Falls

Twin Falls is the urban center of the "Magic Valley" of South Central Idaho, named after a series of canals were built to provide water to the surrounding communities that turned what was once desert into one of the most productive agricultural areas in the nation.

Positioned at the edge of the mighty Snake River Canyon, the spectacular Perrine Bridge, once the highest bridge in the world, brings travelers over the canyon and into town. The double falls, for which the city was named, is a single falls today with a good portion of the water diverted to provide electricity. The truly spectacular falls is downriver a few miles. Shoshone Falls, known as “the Niagara of the West,” is actually higher than Niagara Falls, cascading 212 feet to Dierkes Lake. A system of trails makes it easy to explore the canyon and canyon rim. A new 10,000-foot stretch ascends from Shoshone Falls Park to the rim, and then runs along the rim to where daredevil Evel Knievel attempted his jump over the canyon in 1974.

Twin Falls is home to the College of Southern Idaho. Its Herrett Center for Arts and Science and Fine Arts Auditorium keep the Twin Falls calendar full of local and professional music, art and theater, and a newly installed telescope at the center’s Faulkner Planetarium puts the stars of the universe within reach.

Top-notch whitewater on the Snake River, skiing at Sun Valley, hiking and rock climbing are just a few of the region’s options for outdoor enthusiasts. There are also several scenic byways that allow anyone to experience the grandeur of the area by car.

Did you know...
Shortly after city founder and visionary, I.B. Perrine, traveled East to meet with Thomas Edison, Twin Falls became one of the first cities to have railcars using Edison's new invention, a high capacity storage battery. The two cars ran between downtown and Shoshone Falls.
