Destination guide - Anaheim, California
Anaheim, California

Anaheim is located just south of the Los Angeles Metro area and is home to Disneyland® Resort, one of the most visited attraction centers on the planet. Tourism is Anaheim's largest and most important industry by far. Known for its fantastic theme parks, terrific sports teams and busy convention center, Anaheim is a fabulous, pleasure-packed destination.

In the early 1950’s, world-famous animation studio head, Walt Disney planned to build a family theme park in Burbank, near his legendary studio, but city officials denied him permission. Undaunted, Disney picked Anaheim as his alternate site, because the area reminded him of his boyhood home in Marceline, Missouri. The rest is history.
Anaheim is less than an hour from Los Angeles and Hollywood, where you can also explore exciting, fun-filled points-of-interest including, Universal Studios, Griffith Park, Los Angeles Zoo, Hollywood Bowl, Disney Hall, Six Flags, Rose Bowl and Rodeo Drive.

A half hour's drive south of Anaheim is Newport Beach, known for its irresistible shopping and wonderful coastline vistas. To the southeast is the world-famous community of San Juan Capistrano, where thousands of migrating swallows converge on the two hundred year old Spanish mission in early March every year.
Less than 90 miles south of Anaheim is the seaside resort community of La Jolla, known for its superb shopping and many exciting locales, such as the La Jolla Playhouse and The Torrey Pines Golf Course, home to many top-notch PGA tournaments. Ten miles further south from La Jolla is the bustling seaside city of San Diego. Besides the world-famous San Diego Zoo, the city has a rich history and stunning coastlines.
With a wealth of sightseeing attractions and a strong business center, Anaheim has transformed itself from a small agrarian community to a major sport, entertainment, recreational and industrial center.

Anaheim began in 1857 as a colony of German farmers and vintners. George Hansen was the original surveyor of the 200 acres which are now the downtown area.
